Dr. Meltem Duva attended the 2023 NSF Future of Work at the Human-Technology Frontier Principal Investigators Meeting representing the I-OPT4 Research Team and presented a research poster.
She was also a panelist in the "Perspectives on Research Convergence" session and shared her ideas about the Future of Work program.
Dr. Sinem presented at the CE-Construction Spring 2022 Seminar Series at Purdue University on April 29, 2022 on Social Network Interventions in Project Teams.

Dr. Sinem and MSU Construction Management team attended the American Council for Construction Education mid-year conference 2022, in Irving, TX. They also received and celebrated our program’s reaccreditation.

A diverse group of students from different programs (Construction Management, Engineering, Economy, Computer Science) and various levels of education (undergraduate to Ph.D.) are working together on processing, cleaning, and analyzing student and authentic Architecture, Engineering, and Construction project teams data. The students are supervised by Dr. Hanzhe Zhang (Assistant Professor of Economics) and Dr. Sinem Mollaoglu (Professor of Construction Management).
"It has been a challenge to facilitate the team integration in the last year due to the pandemic. Despite continuous efforts over zoom, we learned that nothing replaces the in-person experience. I feel like we started to restore some much-needed team spirit via our once-a-week in person teamwork sessions this semester." said Dr. Sinem.
"We are valuing in-person meetings much more than before the pandemic. Emails and Zoom lacked efficient and higher-quality responses and interactions that in-person meetings provided. In addition, in-person meetings help us get to know each other better and build personal bonds and trust in each other that will help our long-term team spirits and productivity." said Dr. Zhang.
Dr. Sinem joins Bryan Franz and Steven Ayer to discuss her experiences and challenges in building, sustaining, and growing industry collaborations to support her research.
4 of IOPT-4 team members, Hasan Gokberk Bayhan, Meltem Duva, Nishchay Pidiha and Nishchhal Nihal Pandey, presented their research in 3 Minute Thesis Competition at Engineering Project Organization Conference, 2020 and Meltem Duva, a PhD candidate in Construction Management program, won the first place.
The students were expected to describe their research within three minutes to a general audience using one slide, and judged by a panel of four faculty members from different universities.
TRB hosted a webinar on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 to explore collaborative partnering concept for airport construction projects. Dr. Sinem introduced the concept, presented its benefits, described ways to measure success, and discussed how to implement a collaborative partnership. Moreover ways to improve organizational readiness to use partnering were shared.
Dr. Angelo Garcia and Harsh Kalbhor from I-OPT4 worked alongside Dr. Sinem for the project.
Kendal is an undergraduate student of anthropology from Michigan State University. During Summer 2020, she was mentored by Dr. Mollaoglu, PhD candidate Meltem Duva, Dr. Frank and Dr. Zhao and prepared a research poster named "Project Workflow and Resolution Analysis in AEC Projects". She collected data in one of I-OPT4 research team's on-going NSF projects.
Due to Covid-19, the 2020 Mid-Michigan Symposium for Undergraduate Research Experiences (Mid-SURE) was held on August 10 at the virtual format.

Jackline is an undergraduate student of psychology from California State University, Fullerton planning to apply for graduate school. During Summer 2019, she was mentored by Dr.s Mollaoglu, Zhao, Frank, Garcia and PhD student Meltem Duva under Summer Research Opportunities (SROP) program at Michigan State University. She worked in one of I-OPT4 research team's on-going NSF projects during this time.
On 7/22, Jackline presented her research results to SROP participants.
On 7/24, she presented her research poster at Mid-Michigan Symposium for Undergraduate Research Experiences, where 406 students from more than 100 different institutions participated.
During Summer 2019, she developed a paper on her research and contributed to a conference paper as a co-author with her mentors.

I-OPT team received $16K award from NSF as Research Experiences for Undergraduates Supplement to their project "Social Network Interventions to Develop Routines for Inter-Organizational Project Systems" in accordance with the program solicitation: NSF 13‐542.
On April 5, 2019, Carolyn Whiting and Patty Girardot presented their research project at MSU's Undergraduate Research & Arts Forum (UUAF). Their project titled 'Identifying Communications in Construction Projects through Social Networks ' attempts to better understand the connections formed during the AEC project process and to discover those connections that have potentials to improve communication in the organization. This study is mentored by Dr. Zhao, Dr. Sinem & Dr. Frank.
On Oct. 13, the SPDC participated in the Design & Build Day at Impression 5 Science Museum. This was the second year that HBA of Greater Lansing and Impression 5 organized this event, and this year, SPDC was one of the 11 participating facilitators.
